MPDO updates the municipal hazard maps

03 March 2022 – The Municipal Planning and Development Office (MPDO) of Alegria, Surigao del Norte has been updating the municipal hazard maps recently.

MPDC Johny Natad is very grateful as he revealed that such hazard maps are essential in conducting relevant assessment and monitoring of the hazard-prone areas, particularly on floods and landslides.

“I’m grateful that the MPDO has been updating the hazard map of the municipality through the effort of our Project Development Assistant Andres Galemba who is our GIS operator and expert in mapping. He was able to update the maps using QGIS as we continue updating other relevant maps in preparation for our Comprehensive Land Use Plan (CLUP) and Comprehensive Development Plan (CDP) updating”, Natad said.

Natad emphasizes the need to update the hazard map is crucial after the onslaught of Super Typhoon Odette last December 16, 2021, that brought large losses, particularly in agriculture and infrastructure.
